Cosmetic
Cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics and general dentistry are the three main fields within the broad field of dentistry. Each different field offers its own unique services to patients and provides different solutions to different problems. Cosmetic dentistry is used to improve the overall look and feel of the mouth, the face, the teeth and realigns the teeth and improves the cosmetics of the smile. Orthodontics is a field of dentistry used to fix a patient’s overbite, gaps in between teeth, under bites, crooked teeth and any other problems within the jaw. General dentistry is just that; general dentistry. In the practice of general dentistry a dentist will provide routine cleanings of the teeth and gums, conduct x-rays, make molds for the teeth and treat cavities and other problems within the oral cavity.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Cosmetic dentistry is responsible for repairing problems within the oral cavity such as teeth whitening, fillings, crowns and more. A cosmetic dentist will treat any patient that is recommended for a cosmetic procedure from their general dentist. The patients can be of any age and will be able to receive any procedure that they need done to improve the overall health and appearance of the mouth, face, teeth and even the smile of the patient.
Fillings: fillings are used to replace missing parts of a tooth. Most new fillings are able to be blended in with the color of the tooth and eliminate unsightly metal or gold fillings.
Bonding: bonding is used to fill a chip in a tooth or a gap in between teeth. Bonding is done with a paste that is molded to fit the tooth it is being used on and can match the color of the teeth.
Contouring: contouring is a procedure that reshapes an entire tooth. If a tooth is chipped or cracked teeth as well as overlapping teeth.
Dental Bridges: dental bridges are fused between two porcelain crowns to fill in the dead space where a tooth is missing.
Veneers: veneers are used to disguise discolored teeth that do not respond to whitening procedures.
Orthodontics
Orthodontics is the practice of repairing the oral cavity to its normal state. Whether that is fixing an over bite, an under bite, gaps in teeth, missing teeth, crooked teeth and any other jaw related problems. Orthodontics treats patients of all ages and their most notable practice is the use of braces to straighten out teeth and fix over and under bites.
Braces: braces are used to fix the under bite and over bite of a patient and straighten the teeth of a patient.
Retainers: retainers are usually used after braces are removed to make sure the teeth stay in place.
General Dentistry
General dentistry is the practice run by the majority of dentists in the United States. A general dentist will treat his or her patients with a routine cleaning of the teeth and gums, conduct x-rays, produce molds of teeth, and diagnose any oral diseases or problems such as a cavity or tooth decay. They can also treat gingivitis. General dentistry treats everyone of all ages. They are the most common dentists and have the most patients.
